The Oahe Lady Capitals would finish in fourth place this season, both in the standings at the end of the regular season as well as in the state tournament. The Caps would also have a member of the team on the First Team All-State as junior Brylee Kafka gets the honor. Also, Alyana Youngbluth with would be selected for the Hobey Baker Award for the Capitals.
Kafka over the last two seasons has been in the top five of goal scoring which included being second in the league this year as she was only one of two players to score 20 plus goals. Kafka had 23 goals, behind only Mitchell’s Brynlee Sabers’ 31. Kafka finished with 27 points overall in the league in the 14 games almost averaging two points per game.
The Hobey Baker award is given to a senior on each team and the award signifies character, commitment, persistence, selflessness, academic excellence and sportsmanship. For Youngbluth, it’s an easy award to garner. The captain for the Capitals didn’t get a lot of ice time and didn’t pick up hockey until much later down the road, but was a huge presence in the locker room and team leader for the Caps equating all those values. Youngbluth was also Academic All-State for the Capitals which is any senior playing for three years with a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher
