The Oahe Capitals, coming into the state tournament as the five seed, leave with the third place trophy after Keegan Kitts would score the overtime winner in the 5-4 win over Sioux Falls West on Sunday in Brookings.
Sioux Falls West would strike first in the first period as Parker Jerke would score his first ever varsity goal, but it would be matched by Aidan Dozark’s fourth goal of the tournament to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the second. After the Flyers again would take the lead, Dylan Dodson and Corbin Beastrom would each score a minute and a half apart to give the Caps a 3-2 lead. West again would tie it less than a minute later before Barrett Schweitzer would give the Caps a 4-3 lead heading into the third. A lone goal by the Flyers tied the game at 4-4 and sent a second straight Capitals game into overtime. After playing Saturday night in overtime against Brookings, the Capitals showed they still had something left in the tank Dozark would feed Dodson who put it in front for Keegan Kitts to net the overtime winner and give the Capitals third place in the state tournament. Spencer Anderson made 20 saves in net as his incredible weekend came to a close at 2-1. Anderson arguably had his three best games of the year on the three right days to close the season.
Oahe finishes the year with 14 wins on the year as 13 seniors finish out their final state tournament as does Coach Steve Steele who will step down as head coach following the tournament.
