The Pierre Governor basketball teams, both at 3-1, will travel to Watertown on Tuesday for a rare boys and girls doubleheader to face the Arrows.
The Governor girls would roll past Sturgis and survive Spearfish on Friday and Saturday this past weekend and have won three straight games to face the Arrows tonight. Watertown is just 1-1 on the season with a 10 point win over Brookings but fell to Mitchell 56-33 last Tuesday. Watertown is coming off a 12-12 season placing eighth in the AA state tournament last year. Pierre rolled the Arrows 51-29 last season in Pierre.
The Governor boys won both games this past weekend with double digit wins and the free throw shooting was great for the Govs. The Watertown boys team is also 1-1 with a win over Brookings and a loss to the Mitchell Kernels. Watertown went 7-14 last season and fell to the Kernels in the SoDak 16. This is the second straight year with the Govs traveling to Watertown, but beat the Arrows 64-46 last year in Watertown. This is the final game before the Christmas break and will have just one more game in 2023 which will be next week Saturday taking on Bismarck.
Coverage of the doubleheader begins at 4:30 this evening with tip off of the girls game at 5:00 and the boys game will follow. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
