Despite almost identical rushing totals, the Corsica Stickney Jaguars scored the only two touchdowns, one in the first half and one in the second, but it was enough as the Sully Buttes Chargers couldn’t get close to the endzone, falling 14-0 Friday night in Corsica.
Corsica Stickney stayed on the ground rushing for 179 yards and no passing yards, while Sully Buttes finished with 167 rushing yards and 46 through the air totaling 213 yards for the game.
Field conditions and the wind did play a factor as Sully Buttes could only get as close as the Jags 12 yard line.
Junior back Gavin Barber did leave the game with a reported shoulder injury while quarterback Wesley Wittler had to come out for part of a series after experiencing leg cramps.
The Jaguars finish the regular season at 6-2 and ended up third in the Class 9B standings. Corsica Stickney will host the 14 seed New Underwood Tigers Thursday night. The 3-5 Chargers, the seven seed, will have a home contest against the 10 seed the 3-5 Kadoka Area Kougars.
