Monroe joins Gerald Johnson as the first two Atomic Veteran’s in South Dakota. Johnson received his recognition in late August. Both men took part in Operation Upshot-Knothole at Camp Desert Rock at the Nevada Proving Grounds. Johnson was among the 50 or so in attendance for the ceremony Friday at the Holiday Inn in Fort Pierre. Monroe was laid to rest Friday at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
