The Pierre Governor soccer teams would split its doubleheader in Sturgis on Thursday as the Governor girls would win 7-0 and the boys would fall 3-1.
The Governor girls were slow to get started with just a 1-0 lead at the break. Barry would finish off the hat trick to make it 7-0, her second of the season. Emlyn Swanson would record the shutout stopping five Sturgis Scooper shots.
The Governor boys had an early chance for Jacoby LaRoche in the first 30 seconds but the save was made. Then it would be Taylor Colunga to score off a rebound from Carson Woelter’s shot. However, LaRoche would tie the game with five minutes remaining in the first half. Then Woelter would score twice in the second half to pick up the win for the Scoopers to move to 3-1. Haley Fabel would make six saves in net for the Governors.
The Governors will return home and face the Watertown Arrows next Tuesday. Coverage of the doubleheader will begin at 3:40 from the PILC Fields on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
