PIERRE — The South Dakota Democratic Party is confirming the passing of Party Chair Randy Seiler Monday night. Seiler suffered a heart attack while running at the Oahe Dam on Thursday of last week. He was transported to the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Seiler was preparing to step away as Democratic Party Chairman at the end of the month. Seiler served government at all levels during his career. From stints on the Fort Pierre City Council and Hughes County State’s Attorney’s Office to serving 22 years in the U-S Attorney’s Office, where he ended up serving as U-S Attorney. Seiler ran for South Dakota Attorney General in 2018. U-S Senator Mike Rounds says Seiler was not only a neighbor, but a good friend, who appreciated their candid conversations about the issues facing South Dakota.
