In 2021 it was a goal for the Pierre Governor volleyball team to reach the state tournament. The goal was accomplished, but the team finished in eighth place after a heartbreaking first round loss. In 2022, the state tournament was no longer a goal, it was an expectation. Now the goal is to make a deep run in the state tournament and take care of unfinished business from 2021.
Pierre has won 16 games this season and it was not by accident they were back in the top five of the AA standings again. Pierre’s worst stretch of any time was when they dropped three of four with two of the three losses against the number one and two team in the state. Even when the Governors weren’t at their best this season, they still wouldn’t falter and would grit out some tough wins. Pierre returned all but two players from last year’s state tournament squad and adding in new pieces has been seamless. Senior Grace Soma says they had a solid first step…

Pierre will face the Jefferson Cavaliers on Thursday in the first round of the state tournament. Coverage will start at 12:45 with first serve at 1:15 on KCCR and online at kccrradio.com.
