The Pierre Governor soccer teams started its seasons over the weekend as the Pierre girls won both games as the Pierre boys split the first two games.
On Friday, the Pierre girls wasted no time scoring as they defeated Douglas 10-0 and even ended the game early. After an own goal to start in favor of Pierre, Grace Engbrecht, Grace Richter and Ryann Barry each scored to give Pierre a 4-0 lead. Jasmine Jost scored her first two goals of the season as the Govs led 6-0 at the half. Jost finished the hat trick early on in the second half as Lexi Hillmer, Elli Hughes and Meg Maher all scored in the second half for the win. 7th grade goalie, Peyton Dillman didn’t have much of a test in the first game win and recorded the shutout. On Saturday, Barry had the first wo goals for the Govs in the 5-2 win over Spearfish. Natalie Flottmeyer, Bria Sargent and Hughes each scored a goal for Pierre as the Governors average 8.5 goals through the first two games of the season.
The Pierre boys picked up a shutout win over Douglas on Friday, 7-0 before being shutout by Spearfish on Saturday in a 2-0 loss. Rylan Derry and Cesar Ramirez each had a hat trick while Erland Tveite scored his first varsity goal as well in the win. Carson Ahartz had three saves and Haley Fabel, while not recording a save, combine with Ahartz for the shutout. On Saturday, the Spartans were able to hold down the Gov offense in the 2-0 score. Derry’s hat trick vaults him back into first in the career all-time scoring leader for Pierre, passing Cole Peterson and will have the rest of the season to extend his career lead to a wide margin.
Pierre will travel for the first time on Thursday as they take on the Roosevelt Roughriders in Sioux Falls at Howard Wood. KCCR will have the doubleheader matchup on air and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
