After trailing 16-12 at the end of the first quarter, the Sully Buttes Charger girls’ basketball team rallied in the second, and had enough to hold off a determined Highmore Harrold squad, and the end result was a 52-43 victory Saturday afternoon before a packed gym in Onida.
The Chargers outscored the Pirates 21-11 in the second, sparked by Caitlyn Birney’s six points off the bench, and led at the halfway point by the score of 33-27. A slow third quarter offensively by both teams gave way to Sully Buttes outscoring Highmore Harrold 20-16 in the second half, and moved their record to 18-4.
Sully Buttes was led in scoring by Stevie Wittler, who finished with 18 points, while Lydia Hill added 14. The 15-7 Pirates were paced by Letha Jessen, who hit for 19, while Courtney Moser added eleven.
Next up for the Charger girls is a trip to the SoDak Sixteen tournament Thursday against Faith. Location and time is yet to be determined.
