The Sully Buttes Charger girls kept a breakneck pace from the opening tip, and as a result they picked up their second strong victory of the young season–63-20 over North Central Friday night in Onida.
The Chargers led 28-2 after the first quarter, thanks to solid, pressure defense, and breakaway baskets that, in total, overwhelmed the young North Central Thunder.
Sully Buttes led 43-6 at the half, and played nearly the entirety of the second half with the mercy rule continuous clock. By the second half the Chargers were subbing down and giving their young bench some quality time on the varsity court.
North Central—like Ipswich earlier in the week, graduated five seniors last year, and played their first game of the season against a veteran ball club in Sully Buttes.
Leading the way in scoring for the Chargers was Lydia Hill, who had a solid night in the low post, finishing with 19 points, and Stevie Wittler added twelve. North Central was led in scoring by Brittany Frickson’s 14 points.
Next up for Sully Buttes is a girls/boys doubleheader Tuesday against Lyman in Onida. The JV contests start at 4PM, with the girls varsity game to start at six, and the boys game to follow. You can catch the action on the Home for Charger sports—Country 95.3FM, pierrecountry dot com, and on Youtube at Country 95.3 Sports.
