Over the last weekend, Hillsview Golf Course hosted a Match Play tournament on both the men’s and women’s as former Pierre Governor standout, Hallie Getz took home the championship.
Getz, a 2013 graduate of T.F. Riggs High School, was the top overall seed in the 16 woman bracket, but with only 15 entries, she received a bye into the second round. She received the top seed after having the best stroke play score on Thursday. In her first match of the tournament, Getz won in just 12 holes as she finished 7 & 5, opening up a four hole lead in just the first six holes of the match. Getz fell behind by one early in the semifinals but a hole later tied the match back up and reclaimed the lead by the end of the front nine. Getz finished the round beating Tavia Rutherford to advance to the championship. In the championship Getz never trailed in the match going up by as many as three but Maggie Murphy climbed back to tie the match late. Ultimately, it was Getz winning hole 17 and 18 to finish out the championship with a 78 on the afternoon and winning the Match Play Title at her home golf course. Bryce Hammer beat Ryan Jansa in the finals of the men’s Match Play on Sunday.
