Last month the weather was not especially biker friendly. Temperatures ranged around the mid 50’s, it was cloudy, and there was a 20-25 NW wind. Regardless 38 riders entered the race in 4 different categories. While most of the riders were from the Pierre-Ft. Pierre area, riders from the communities of Rapid City, Brookings, Aberdeen, Custer and Sioux Falls also entered.
Sponsors for the race included Scheels All Sports, Beck Motor Company, Brosz Engineering, Coca Cola of Pierre, First National Bank, Lee Real Estate, Reinke Gray Wealth Management, and Sanford Clinic. Additional support was provided by Lynn’s Dakotamart, Pedal & Paddle, the Pierre Volunteer Fire Department, and South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks.
The overall winner was Justin Lancaster from Sioux Falls who just happened to grow up in Pierre and spend lots of his childhood time riding on LaFramboise Island. Other riders placing first through third were Todd Shoenberner and Roman Slack from Rapid City; Scott Darnall, Jenny Bernhard, Mary Turner, Randy Turner, Brian Merrill, Michele Brich, Megan Ernst and Meredith Lee from Pierre; and Nancy Whillock from Aberdeen.
