Post 8 Baseball Splits with Hardhats on the Road

Post 8 Baseball picked up a 9-5 win in game one of a doubleheader and split with the Rapid City Post 22 Hardhats on Wednesday falling in game two in a pitchers’ dual, 2-1.

Post 22 went up 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning in game one thanks to three hits on the first three pitches of the game, but Jayden Wiebe settled in on the mound and allowing just another two runs to score in his three and two-thirds innings for the Eights. In the top of the fourth Elliot Leif and Jack Merkwan each singled and an error on Merkwan’s single allowed the Eights to pull to 4-3. Cade Hinkle hit a sac fly to tie the game at 4-4, Andy Gordon would then single in Maguire Raske and Bennett Dean tripled home Gordon for a four run fourth and give Post 8 the lead 6-4. Aaron Booth put stamp on the game hitting a two run homer off the foul pole in left field increase the lead to 9-5 in the top of the sixth inning. Jack Van Camp came in for the save in the seventh to close out the 9-8 win.

In game two, the Eights scored on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead but that’s all they were allowed as Hunter Tillery threw six scoreless innings for a complete game pitchers’ dual win. Jack Van Camp had one earned and one unearned run in the loss as he threw another five innings starting game two. In total, the Eights out hit the Hardhats 19-15 in the doubleheader and are now 10-6 on the season while the Hardhats move to 9-7.

Assistant Coach Nathan Naasz says it’s a good win against the Hardhats especially when things didn’t look good in the first inning…

As the eight game winning streak came to an end, Naasz gives credit to the players because it could have easily been eight losses in a row if it wasn’t for the hard work…

And Naasz says the Dakota Classic this weekend is set up around the Sioux Falls West game on Saturday night…

Post 8 will play Wayzata, Minnesota in the first game of the tournament at 7:30 on Saturday. They will face Sioux Falls West Saturday night 7:30. You can listen to first three games of the tournament on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Sunday’s game at 9:30 AM on Capital City Rock, capitalcityrock.com and on YouTube still at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
