Post 8 Splits Opening Two Games with Renner and Post 22

Pierre Post 8 took an opening day split against Renner and Rapid City Post 22 on Tuesday at Hyde Stadium falling 6-1 against Renner but coming back to beat Post 22 9-6 in the night cap.

Pierre committed two errors in the first two batters of the game against the Renner Royals which allowed the Royals to take a 2-0 first inning lead off of two unearned runs. Jack Van Camp would go three and third innings allowing four unearned runs in the loss giving up just two hits in the game. Pierre would end the first game with four errors, eight walks and a hit batter for a total of 12 free base runners. Lincoln Kienholz drove in Pierre’s only run with an RBI double. Sam Stukel threw a complete game with just one run on five hits, one walk and seven strike outs.

Post 8 played much better in the night cap against Post 22 taking a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single for Maguire Raske and Raske scoring as Bennett Dean reached on an error. Post 22 would answer with a two out, two RBI double from Dylan Klosterman in the top of the third but the Eights would explode for five runs in the bottom half of the innings thanks to RBIs from Andy Gordon, Raske, Spencer Letellier and two RBIs from Isaac Polak. Elliot Leif picked up the win on the mound only three runs on four hits and six walks along with eight strikeouts over four and a third innings. Kienholz came in for the four out save for Post 8.

Brian White, manager of Post 8, says he thought the energy was flat in the first game for Pierre…

White says Leif was amazing for Post 8 throwing against Post 22…

And White says they’re going to continue to get better at bats as the season rolls on…

The Eights will remain at home on Thursday as they play against the Brookings Bandits. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 as the game will be on Today’s KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
