BLUNT — Work is underway on stretch of U-S Highway 14 in Hughes County. The South Dakota Department of Transportation says a resurfacing project started Monday from three miles east of Blunt to three miles east of Harrold. Crews will do cold milling, asphalt concrete resurfacing, bridge rail upgrades, erosion control and pipe repair. Bridge rail work should be done by the end of April. Traffic will move through the work area with stop signs and “stop and go” traffic. The top one inch of Highway 14 in the construction zone will be milled off and then blade leveled and strengthened before two inches of new asphalt is laid on top. The cold milling part of the project starts May 17th with paving to start May 27th. During surfacing operations, flaggers and pilot cars will be used. The paving should be done by mid-July with the entire project wrapped up by August 27th.
