It may have been Opening Day for the Pierre Governors this weekend, but the bats didn’t wait for the next couple of weeks to come around. The Governors won all four games against Rapid City Stevens and Central cumulating 58 hits and scoring 70 runs. The Govs beat Stevens 11-3 and 15-2 while knocking off winless Central 28-7 and 16-5.
Game one of the season, the Governors scored the fewest runs of any game beating Stevens 11-3. It was a telltale sign of the weekend when Lincoln Kienholz led off the season with a triple and Matt Hanson scored him with an RBI single in the second at bat. Kienholz finished the weekend with eight extra base hits while recording a total of 11 hits. Five of the eight extra base hits were triples which puts him already second all-time in a single season for triples, trailing only Landon Badger by two and is now third all-time in triples for a career behind Garrett Stout with 10 and Badger with 11.
Aaron Booth, Bennett Dean, Isaac Polak and Jake Mayer all received a four run lead before ever taking the mound in the bottom of the first in all four games. The Governors were able to get everyone at bats and threw multiple pitchers in each of the first games cruising to four wins.
The Governors will stay on the road as they head to Mitchell on Friday to face the Kernels. The doubleheader has first pitch scheduled for 5:00 from Cadwell Park. Jon Winkler and Greg Dean will have the call on Today’s KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
