PIERRE, (KCCR) — A public hearing has been set by the South Dakota Transportation Commission to consider changes to speed zones in Hughes and Stanley Counties. Department of Transportation legal counsel Karla Engle says the proposed change is needed due to the Legislature’s passage of Senate Bill 39. That bill will redesignate Euclid Avenue in Pierre as South Dakota Highway 1889…
The administrative rule changes would keep the current speed limits, but eliminate references to the U-S Highway 83 Truck Route. Senate Bill 39 would move U-S Highway 14 to Garfield Avenue, moving that highway’s designation to try and keep semi-trucks from passing under the Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern’s railroad bridge. The hearing is set for the Transportation Commission’s May 29th meeting.
