The Pierre Governor softball team would host three teams over two days as the Govs would beat the Spearfish Spartans but drop games to both Sturgis and Stevens.
In game one, Sturgis would rip off 13 hits including three doubles and a home run as Abby Tweedy would finish a triple shy of the cycle in the 10-4 Scoopers win. Pierre went down 9-0 through four innings before finally getting on the board in the bottom of the fifth, and would strike for three runs in the seventh, but didn’t have enough tank to mount a comeback. McKenzi Flottmeyer would go all seven innings in the circle allowing eight earned runs with three walks and eight strikeouts. Noel Kist had two doubles, Alivia Heymans and Amber Romans had a double and Ally Keyes had a triple for the Govs.
In game two on Friday, Pierre would fly out to a 17-2 win over Spearfish in four innings. It included an 11 run first inning as Pierre had just nine hits, but used four Spartans errors to tack on eight unearned runs. Keyes led the way with four RBIs while she and Elly Broers each had a triple and Broers also had three RBIs. Kist gave up just the two runs on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
On Saturday, the Govs didn’t have the fortune against Stevens Raiders falling 6-1. A five run fourth propelled the Raiders to a 6-0 lead before Broers would drive in Pierre’s only run as she went 3-3 on the day with a double. Pierre had just five hits in the loss. Kist would give up six runs on 11 hits with a walk and 11 strikeouts.
Pierre drops to 2-5 on the season. Pierre will travel to face Aberdeen Central on the road on Tuesday. First pitch is at 4:00.
