FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — The City of Fort Pierre is one step closer to seeing if residential lots bought out by the U-S Army Corps of Engineers could ever be put back to use for housing in the city. Mayor Gloria Hanson says she continues to be in contact with South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds on the issue…
Hanson was also meeting along with city officials with individuals looking to constructed outdoor basketball courts within the city. Hanson says Corps lots were at the top of the list for possible locations for those if the idea moves forward. Fort Pierre has 44 such lots in the city, largely between 7th and 4th Avenues. The city began exploring re-use of the Corps lots in March of last year. The lots were bought out by the Corps following severe flooding in 2011.
