Former Oahe Capital Carter Sanderson and the Muskegon Lumberjacks are heading to the Eastern Conference Final after sweeping the Youngstown Phantoms winning game three 5-3 at home on Tuesday.
The Lumberjacks jumped out to a 4-1 lead through two periods as they scored to take a 1-0 lead just 23 seconds into the game. David Deputy had two goals including the first one as the Lumberjacks were able to hold off the onslaught from the Phantoms in the third. Youngstown scored to make it 4-3 with just 1:43 remaining in the third period, but Tynan Lawrence hit the empty net with 45 seconds remaining to seal the win and three game sweep of the top team in the Eastern Conference. Youngstown outshot Muskegon 33-17.
Muskegon advances to face the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the Eastern Conference Final in another best-of-five series. Games one and two are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 25-26 in Dubuque. Puck drop is at 7:05 for both games.
