The Sioux Falls Stampede and the Waterloo Black Hawks are tied at a game apiece after the first two games of the USHL Western Conference Semifinal. Waterloo took game one 4-2, but the Stampede grabbed game two 5-2.
Waterloo had a strong third period to come back from a 2-1 deficit as they scored three unanswered goals after taking the lead in the first five minutes of the third. Sam Spehar and Gennadi Chaly both had goals for the Stampede in the loss. Waylon Esche had 18 saves on 22 shots as the Stampede outshot the Black Hawks 34-22.
In game two, Waterloo nearly came back from a 3-0 deficit as the Stamped led 2-0 after the first and second periods. An early Spehar goal making it 3-0 sparked Waterloo to cut it to 3-2, but Brock James would make it 4-2 and an empty netter from Joseph McGraw gave the Stampede the win to even the series heading to Waterloo. Esche stopped 32 of 34 shots in the win.
The series shifts to Waterloo stating tonight. Games three and four will be on the road for the Stampede with the decisive game five would be on Friday back in Sioux Falls.
