The Muskegon Lumberjacks are now up 2-0 in its best-of-five series with the top team Youngstown Phantoms with 5-3 and 6-2 wins on Saturday and Sunday.
Former Oahe Capital Carter Sanderson and the Lumberjacks need just one win in the next three games to advance to the Eastern Conference final as the four seed was dominant on the road to open the series. Muskegon led 5-0 in its game one 5-3 win as they scored twice in the first and another three times in the second even though the Lumberjacks were outshot 36-25 in the game. Muskegon was 6-6 on the penalty kill.
On Sunday, the Lumberjacks scored three in a row twice as they trailed 1-0 in the first, but led 3-1 early in the second and had a 4-2 lead at the end of two. Again the Phantoms outshot Muskegon 30-23, but the Lumberjacks were 3-4 on the power play. So far in the series Sanderson has two shots on goal and four penalty minutes.
Muskegon will look to close out the series on Tuesday or Wednesday at home. Puck drop is at 6:10 Central Time in Muskegon.
