It will come down to a winner-take-all game to advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals of the USHL playoffs as the Muskegon Lumberjacks lost 4-3 Tuesday night to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
Muskegon would build a 2-1 lead after two periods and make it 3-1 within the first two minutes of the third as the Lumberjacks looked like they were in control. However, Cedar Rapids would fire off three goals in the final 17 minutes to stun the Lumberjacks in game two of the first round series evening things at a game apiece. The RoughRiders game winner would come with 59 seconds remaining in regulation, the second time the game winning goal has been scored with just around a minute left in the third. Once again, Cedar Rapids would outshoot the Lumberjacks, this time 26-18 as both teams were 1-2 on the power play. Former Oahe Capital Sanderson didn’t register a shot on goal this game.
The decisive game three is tonight in Muskegon. Puck drop is at 6:10 Central Time. The winner advances to face the Youngstown Phantoms in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
