The Pierre Governor softball team was unable to get its first win of the season on Tuesday as they would drop a 7-4 decision to the Watertown Arrows on the road.
The loss makes the Govs now 0-3 to start the season and it would be a big fifth inning for Watertown to spoil any chances for Pierre. A five run fifth gave the Arrows the 7-1 lead after Pierre initially had a 1-0 advantage after the first and it was tied 1-1 through three. Ireland Templeton singled home the first run of the game and in the top of the sixth, Charlie Hull would have a two out, bases clearing triple to pull the Govs within three at 7-4. Hull now leads the team with five RBIs this season. But Pierre went 1-2-3 in the seventh unable to get any rally going to try and make the comeback. McKenzi Flottmeyer would take the loss in the circle giving up seven runs on eight hits with four walks and nine strikeouts. Noel Kist finished the game pitching a scoreless sixth on one hit and two strikeouts. Amber Roman doubled for Pierre and Flottmeyer had the other triple.
Pierre will be back at home on Thursday looking for its first win of the season hosting the 3-1 Brookings Bobcats. First pitch is at 4:00 from the Riggs High School Softball field.
