FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — Just over 500 meters were without power for a few hours while West Central Electric crews dealt with a smoldering power pole on Verendrye Drive in Fort Pierre Monday night. Embers caused a grassfire that Fort Pierre Fire Chief Dustin Dowling says threatened some structures…
West Central Staff Engineer Kit Talich says the pole has enough damage to require replacement…
The outage was more for safety than any failure of equipment…
The two-and-a-half hour outage forced a number of local radio stations, including three Riverfront Broadcasting stations, off air during the outage. Officials have not determined when the damaged pole will be replaced, which will require a planned outage.
