The Muskegon Lumberjacks had a goal waived off in the third period, but would still net the game winner late in the third to beat Cedar Rapids 2-1 in the first game of the first round of the USHL playoffs on Monday.
Jack Galanek would score first for the Lumberjacks as Muskegon led 1-0 after the first and second periods. The RoughRiders would tie the game just five minutes into the third period and after a goal was taken off the board for goalie interference, Galanek set up Vaclav Nestrasil for the game winner with just a minute and two seconds remaining in regulation. Muskegon was outshot 32-28, but went 4-4 on penalty kills to help stave off any Cedar Rapids bids.
The win puts former Oahe Capital Carter Sanderson and the Lumberjacks one win away from advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals. The two teams play again tonight in Muskegon with a 6:10 puck drop.
