Team South Dakota 18U Boys team would drop a 3-2 game Thursday morning to the Maine Gladiators and fall to 0-1-1 in the tournament as they will be eliminated from semifinal contention.
Team SD would open up the scoring in the first period as Brookings’ Riley Linstad would score from Jaxon Danielson of Aberdeen and Brookings teammate Talon Hyde. However, Dylan Blue would score all three goals for the Gladiators to take a 3-1 lead midway through the third period. With the goalie pulled and in the final minute, Sioux Falls’ Jackson Henry would make it 3-2 with Danielson and Hyde both assisting again. However, as time was running out, Team SD was unable to get a second goal to force overtime dropping its second game. Lewis Jerke made 48 saves on 51 shots in the loss.
With the Idaho Steelheads beating the Alabama Thunder, both Idaho and Maine are 2-0 and cannot be caught to make the semifinals. Team South Dakota will play its final game of the USA Hockey National Tournament at 6:15 Central Time Friday against the Alabama Thunder.
