Former Oahe Capital Dre Berndt and the New Mexico Ice Wolves would fall one game short of the NA3HL Fraser Cup Championship with a 5-4 loss to the Louisiana Drillers on Saturday.
The Ice Wolves tried for a massive comeback in the third period as they trailed 5-1 after two periods and scored three goals in the third including two in the final 90 seconds of the game. However, New Mexico came up just one shot short to the best team in the NA3HL. Louisiana opened up the first period with four goals as they outshot the Ice Wolves 30-23 in the game. Berndt finished with two assists in seven playoff games for the Ice Wolves. He will look to continue his hockey career in college.
The Drillers would win the Fraser Cup, beating the West Bend Power 5-1 in the championship game on Sunday.
