Team South Dakota would drop an 8-0 decision to Lovell Academy out of Massachusetts on Friday finishing 1-2 in pool play and did not get the help they needed to make the quarterfinals.
Lovell blitzed Team SD with four goals in each of the first two periods and would outshoot Team SD 57-13 as South Dakota could not get more than six shots on goal in any period. Brookings’ Rorii Quam and Aberdeen’s Chloe Vikander split time between the pipes in the game. Team SD finished 1-2 and tied with two other teams for the third and fourth spot in the pool to make the quarterfinals. However, they were the bottom team in the tie breaker and pushed to fifth place eliminating the team just shy of the Saturday quarterfinals.
The Capitals were represented by Brylee Kafka, Kallee Behm and Raegan Pfeifer. Both Kafka and Behm each had two points as the only players with multiple points in the three games for Team South Dakota.
Some girls will play again this coming week as the USA Hockey National Tournament continues with Team South Dakota 14U and 16U girls play. Team SD will have an 18U boys team playing for the first time. Those tournaments start Wednesday.
