Highway Safety Engineer Dustin Witt says the state’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan is updated every five years with the goal of eliminating fatal crashes…
Witt says the downward trends continued until the first part of 2020…
Witt says the study focuses on a number of areas…
Those areas account for 97-percent of serious crashes in the state. So far in 2025, 17 fatalities have been recorded on South Dakota highways. The goal for fatalities by 2029 in the Strategic Highway Safety Plan is 100 for the year.
