PIERRE, (KCCR) — Construction is underway on a segment of South Dakota Highway 47 in Lyman County. Preliminary work is underway on Highway 47 from Iona to Fort Thompson. The work on the 47-mile stretch of highway includes asphalt concrete surfacing, pipe repair and box culvert replacement. The preliminary work will be completed using shoulder closures along with flaggers and pilot cars. Drivers are asked to be alert while driving through work zones for workers and construction equipment. Once the preliminary work is finished, two box culverts will be replaced on the highway to be followed by cold milling work. The estimated cost of the project is 21-point-two million dollars and will be done by Spencer Quarries, Incorporated of Spencer, South Dakota. Like the Euclid Avenue project in Pierre, text message updates on the Highway 47 project are available by texting LYMAN47 to 605-566-4041. A website has also been set up for the project at dot.sd.gov/highway47. The project is expected to be completed in November.
