The New Mexico Ice Wolves would survive a comeback from the West Bend Power and win 4-3 in overtime to claim the first win of the NA3HL tournament on Thursday in St. Peter’s, Missouri.
Former Oahe Capital Dre Berndt and the Ice Wolves will still need a win or overtime game today to ensure the Ice Wolves advance to the semifinals. Because the game went to overtime, West Bend has moved into one of the semifinal spots on Saturday. New Mexico would lead 2-1 after the first and 3-1 after the second, but two third period goals by West Bend would mount the comeback and force the game into overtime. It was a short lived OT as the Ice Wolves would score just 15 seconds in as Calahan Butler would score his second of the game and get the win for the Ice Wolves.
New Mexico will face the Helena Bighorns who lost the first game on Wednesday. Game time is at 4:00 today.
