The Pierre Governor golf team seniors have been invited and will compete at the PGA High School National Invitational at Pinehurst Golf Course in July.
Four of the five seniors will be playing at Pinehurst in North Carolina which is one of the renowned golf courses in the world hosting PGA major championships which includes the 2024 US Open. Nick Bothun, Luke Olson, Sawyer Sonnenschein and Lincoln Houska will all play towards the end of July against some of the best high school golfers in the country. While the Governor boys did not win the state title, Tiffany Benham, head coach of the Pierre Governor golf teams says they’re still able to go…
For these guys, this is a long time coming as they’ve been part of the varsity team for the last four years and have battled for state championships every year. The reward is to play one more time as a group at one of golf’s best courses, something Benham says you almost can’t put into words…
Sonnenschein says it’s crazy and a dream come true to play at Pinehurst…
Bothun says it’s surreal…
While the course and atmosphere are going to be like any other event the guys have played on, they want to take in the moment and enjoy the opportunity to play on the course. Sonnenschein says he wants to just stay relaxed…
And Bothun says they just have to have some fun…
Benham notes this is not a school sponsored event and there extra expenses to make the trip happen. If you would like to donate to help with the expenses for the boys you can make contributions as a check payable to Pierre Boys’ Golf to 116 Marie Road in Pierre, 57501, Venmo or CashApp to Kate Olson which are below. the PGA High School National Invite is July 20-22.
