The Louisiana Drillers would win both games over the weekend, beating the New Mexico Ice Wolves 4-1 and 2-1 to advance to the Fraser Cup Tournament. However, both teams will be in the Fraser Cup.
Former Oahe Capital, Dre Berndt and the Ice Wolves had to face one of the best teams in all of NA3HL as the Drillers are now 43-3-3-1. By record, it is the best team in the NA3HL. Although the Ice Wolves finish the season at 39-7-2-2 which is still one of the best in the league.
In Friday’s game, the Drillers went up 2-0 in the second period before New Mexico would score its lone goal as Berndt was on the ice for the goal. He finished the game with a 0 +/-. On Saturday, the Ice Wolves tied the game at 1-1 in the second period with Berndt again on the ice for the goal, but the Drillers would score with around five minutes left in the third to secure the 2-1 win and sweep the three game series and advance to the Fraser Cup in St. Louis as the Division winner.
The five division winners make the championship, but there is one wild card team. Because of the Ice Wolves record, they are the team which qualifies for the Fraser Cup and will play at 4:00 on Thursday.
