PIERRE, (KCCR) — A murder trial remains on track for a Pierre man. A hearing in the homicide trial of 26 years-old David Shangreaux, Jr. was held Wednesday afternoon at the Hughes County Courthouse. Sixth Circuit Judge Christina Klinger discussed pre-trial logistics in the case with attorneys. Prosecutors expect to need about five days to present their case against Shangreaux. Defense attorney Clint Sargent told Klinger he would need less that three days to defend his client. The parties discussed motions including possible evidence of a third party perpetrator among others. Shangreaux will be permitted to wear street clothes during his trial. Sargent also withdrew pleas in the case relating to a mental illness defense leaving only not guilty pleas on murder charges in the case. Jury selection in the case is scheduled to start April 23rd. The trial could last until May 6th. Shangreaux is charged in the November 30th 2023 death of 17 years-old Evie Maxey. Maxey was discovered in a Pierre apartment bathroom with multiple stab wounds after Pierre police responded to a disturbance call at the apartment.
