The Lyman Raiders, who were the 12 seed in the Class B SoDak 16 last week, will open the Class B state tournament as the eight seed and face the number one team, Castlewood in the first round.
Since the turn over the decade, this will be the first matchup between the Raiders and Warriors as Lyman comes in at 17-6 while Castlewood is at 21-2 with its two losses to Class A Hamlin and the third seeded Viborg-Hurley. Castlewood has led the state for most of the year. Lyman, though, is 8-2 since the start of February and have won 10 of 12 since January 28. Castlewood has won 10 in a row. Lyman has only Aksel Ehlers as the lone senior for this group which potentially jumped ahead of curve getting to the state tournament this year.
The Raiders are led in scoring by MJ Diehm who is averaging 15.4 points per game and is just a sophomore. Dawsen Volmer, another sophomore is scoring 12.6 points a game while also pulling down a team lead in nearly six rebounds per game. Bryon Laue and Jamison Keszler lead the Warriors with 16.5 and 15 points per game. Brody Bass also collects 11.4 points a game as well. Laue, the 6’9 senior, averages a double-double with 12.9 rebounds per game, tops on the team. The task will be a big one for the Raiders.
Tip off from the Barnett Center in Aberdeen is scheduled for 12:00 Central Time.
