PIERRE, (KCCR) — The U-S Army Corps of Engineers normally hold spring public meetings at cities along the Missouri River to ge input on the Corps’ managing of the river and runoff into it. However federal spending cuts and a Corps of Engineers directive is forcing a change to those in person meetings. Travel restrictions on civilian Corps employees is driving the change. The meetings will still take place but now they will be held in a virtual format. Virtual meetings have been held by the Corps before, specifically five years ago at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and when travel restrictions have been in place. An in-person meeting in the Pierre/Fort Pierre area was tentatively scheduled for April 2nd. The Corps was also considering a spring meeting at Fort Thompson. Official meeting dates and times and ways to take part in the virtual meetings will be announced when finalized.
