The Oahe Capitals would finish in fourth place in the state tournament over the weekend with a 3-0 loss to Brookings on Friday and 4-3 loss to Aberdeen on Saturday.
On Friday in the state semifinal, the Caps would fight through a period with just one shot, but only give up one goal as Kinzey Grendler made it 1-0, before scoring on a power play goal just 31 seconds into the second. Grace DeVries would put the final goal away with 1:30 remaining in the third as the Caps were unable to get down the ice to get goalie Kylee Fromm off for the extra attacker. Fromm made 16 saves on 19 shots. Oahe would outshoot Brookings 12-4 in the third and 22-19 in the game, but just couldn’t get one through.
On Saturday, the Caps did strike first as Katie Reiss put one under the bar and in from the point and Elliot Bertsch would score to make it 2-0. However Aberdeen would score the next three goals to take their first lead, but Dakota McEntaffer scored to tie the game at 3-3 with 6:37 remaining in the third. Allison Woehl would net the game winner just a minute and a half later and the Cougars held on for the third place finish.
Oahe finishes the year overall at 14-10 as seniors Brylee Kafka and Sophia Peschong finish their careers with the Caps.
Sioux Falls would win the state championship beating the Brookings Rangers 3-2 in five overtimes as it’s believed to be the longest game in girls hockey history in South Dakota.
