Despite the scores being relatively close, the Sully Buttes Charger girls basketball team started in the hole, and fought hard, but couldn’t get enough shots to drop in a 49-32 loss the Faulkton Area Tuesday night in Faulkton.
The Chargers trailed 19-9 after the first quarter, with the Trojans finishing the first quarter in a scoring flurry. At the half, it was Faulkton Area out front by the score of 34-23. After three the Trojans led 38-29, and capped the game by outscoring Sully Buttes 11-3 in the final stanza to advance to Thursday play at Tiospaya Topa.
After committing 32 turnovers in the first matchup, Sully Buttes still gave the ball away too much, finishing with 23 for the game. But, on the defensive end, the Chargers tightened up their defense and forced Faulkton Area into 14 turnovers.
Leading the way in her final hoops game of her high school career, Payge Bakker led with 15 points while Olivia Olson kept pace scoring 12, with five steals in the game. The Trojans were led by Carley Cotton, who tallied 21 points and went nine of nine from the free throw line.
The Chargers end their season at 8-12, while Faulkton Area ups its mark to 14-7.
