Governors to Send 11, Sully Buttes Three to State Wrestling

The Pierre Governor wrestling team would win the Region 3 meet as a team on Thursday sending all but one weight class to the state tournament while the Sully Buttes Chargers had three of four qualify for the state meet in Clark.

The Governors, in Aberdeen, would finish with Dani Ringstmeyer, Lexie Hillmer, Kezrey Benning and Abbi Lewis all winning their respective weight classes to reach the state meet while Shaylee Speck, Ireland Templeton, Kyanne Traversie-Johnson and Brylee Pelle reached the championship match and would finish in second. Layne Heasley would get third and Gemma Stangeland and Jayda Steinke would each get fourth. Pierre had a team score of 225.5, beating Aberdeen Central who finished in second with a 172.5.

The Sully Buttes Chargers had four girls wrestling in Clark at the Region 1 tournament. Both Cateri Yellow Hawk and Tahnie Yellow Hawk would win their respective weight classes while Paige Jonas would also qualify placing third. Cheyenne Fuller would battle, but finish in sixth place.

You can see a full list of the results below. The Governors and Chargers will send their wrestlers to the state meet next week Thursday through Saturday in Rapid City.
