The Pierre Governor basketball teams will both be in action this weekend as the Governor girls will host both Mitchell and Lincoln while the boys are in Mitchell tonight.
The girls team will see a tough Mitchell squad tonight who are in the top five of the AA standings. Mitchell is 13-4 on the season, but have lost two of the last three to Spearfish and Washington. For the Kernels, their last six games are against teams over .500 including Brandon Valley and O’Gorman remaining on the schedule, the top two teams in the state. Then on Saturday, Pierre goes from the top of the standings to facing a team at the bottom of the standings. Lincoln is coming into the weekend at 1-15 and have not won since the first game of the season over winless Yankton. Lincoln faces Jefferson tonight.
The Governors will also see a tough Mitchell team tonight at the Corn Palace. Mitchell is 15-2 and in second place in the AA standings and have won nine in a row including an eight point win over Washington on Tuesday. Pierre, at 6-10 will gain seed points regardless of the outcome tonight, but a win could help propel them closer to the top eight of the standings.
