While outside it’s been frigid cold, inside both the Pierre and Brookings gym the Governors were hot as they would beat Brookings in both games, the girls winning 72-59 and the boys 67-47.
In the girls game, Pierre would shoot well in the first half but still trail 34-32 at the break, but defensively picked up the pace in the third holding the Bobcats to just six points while scoring 19 of their own and taking a 51-40 lead at the end of three. Lennix DuPris and Emery Larson both couldn’t miss from long range as the Governors in total had 11 threes in the win. DuPris finished with the game high 31 points after having 20 in the first half while Larson had 22 which included 14 second half points. Larson even had a six point possession where she was fouled after making a three and then hitting another three after maintaining the possession. Molly Olson also contributed nine for the now 9-6 Governors.
In the boys game, the third quarter bugaboo would be nonexistent as the Governors extended a 38-28 lead to a 63-34 lead at the end of three. The Governors only needed four points to pick up the sixth win of the season improving to 6-10. Dawson Getz led with a team high 17 points on senior night while Luke Olson finished with 13 and Lincoln Dilges added another 12 as the Govs had those three in double figures. All seniors were able to get in the game. Eladio Simental had eight, Sawyer Sonnenschein and Bennett Swartos each scored two. Winless Brookings had a game high 18 points from Bergan Tetzlaff. The Bobcats are now 0-17 on the season.
Next up for the Governors is two big games against tough Mitchell squads. The girls will host on Friday while the boys will travel. The girls game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Dylan Simmons the call.
