PIERRE, (KCCR) — South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds is behind an effort to rename the Federal Courthouse in Pierre after Marcella LeBeau. Rounds along with Senate Majority Leader and fellow South Dakota Senator John Thune introduced Wednesday the Marcella LeBeau Recognition Act. LeBeau was born in Promise in Dewey County and is a lifelong South Dakotan, World War Two Veteran, nurse and well-respected leader in the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and across South Dakota. Rounds says LeBeau lived an incredible life of service and the legislation would make certain all who enter the building will remember her life and legacy. The measure is also fully supported by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and Great Plains Tribal Chairman’s Association. LeBeau’s grandson, Ryman LeBeau is chairman of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. He says on behalf of the Tribe and his family they send sincere gratitude to Rounds for this leadership and thoughtfulness and honor in seeking to rename the Federal Building in Pierre after his grandmother.
