Governors Face Aberdeen Central as Girls Host, Boys Travel

The Pierre Governor basketball teams will get back to action as the girls continue a grueling stretch hosting Aberdeen Central tonight while the boys will be back on the road for their third straight in Aberdeen.

The Governor girls played valiantly against Brandon Valley at home on Thursday, but was not able to pick up the win against the now 10-1 Lynx. The schedule isn’t getting much easier as 4-4 Governors now face the 7-3 Golden Eagles. Aberdeen Central is in sixth place in AA standings, but have dropped back-to-back games against O’Gorman and Brandon Valley. Aberdeen Central was 8-2 last year when they faced the Governors and lost and ended up not making the state tournament. They won’t want the same fortune to fall on them again this year.

The Governor boys will face Aberdeen Central on the opposite side of the girls team. The Golden Eagles are just 2-8 and have wins over only Watertown and Yankton. Pierre, at 3-6, need to make sure they pick up a win as they sit in tenth place in the AA standings and are still fighting for a spot for a home game in the SoDak 16.

Coverage of the Pierre Boys game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Dylan Simmons on the call while the girls game will be on Capital City Rock but on KCCR Sports on YouTube with Jon Winkler on the call. Both games are scheduled for a 7:00 tip off.
