In a game that featured two teams with single digit wins, the Sully Buttes Chargers dug deep late in the third quarter and into the fourth, and held off a determined Stanley County girls team 38-26 at Parkview Gym in Ft. Pierre Thursday night.
Payge Bakker singlehandedly outscored Stanley County 27-26, to help pace the 5-7 Chargers. Bakker was the only player in double figures for either side.
The Lady Buffs had balanced scoring, with Austyn Norman hitting for nine points, all from behind the arc, while Journey Schnee added seven, and freshman Addy Deal added 5 for 1-11 Stanley County.
Sully Buttes turned the ball over 24 times, while Stanley County had 18 of their own miscues. The Chargers led 18-17 at the half, and 28-23 after three.
Sully Buttes has a week off before their next game, a girls and boys doubleheader at home against Hitchcock-Tulare next Thursday while Stanley County has a girls and boys doubleheader Saturday at Eagle Butte.
