Hughes County Commission To Consider Increased Fees For At-large Animal Retrieval

PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Hughes County Commission has approved a fee schedule that increases the fees the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office can charge for dealing with at-large pets in the County. Sheriff Patrick Callahan says his office can lose money for dealing with at-large animal calls…

Callahan wants to boost the fees on a three-offense basis…

The fee structure is similar to that used by the City of Pierre. Callahan says all he’s trying to do with the fee increases is cover his animal control budget…

An ordinance reflecting the changes will be brought to the Hughes County Commission for approval in the near future.
