Friday, the Watertown Lakers came back from a 2-0 deficit and score with just 28 seconds remaining in the third to beat the Oahe Capitals 3-2 Friday night in Watertown.
With both teams in a fight for two of the last three playoff spots, the loss doesn’t doom the Capitals chances, but certainly makes the margin for error much smaller. Logan Anderson had the first goal of the game with a wrap around rebound chance to make it 1-0 through the first period where Oahe outshot the Lakers 14-2, but couldn’t capitalize on numerous Laker turnovers in the offensive end. Dylan Dodson made it 2-0 on a short handed breakaway past the midway point of the second period. However, Mylan Evans made it 2-1 on the power play through two periods and after Colton Kasuske tied the game early in the third, Jack Elshere won it with 28 seconds after a turnover in the neutral zone. Jaxon Jungwirth made 19 saves on 22 shots.
Oahe drops its fourth straight and are now 4-7 on the season. The Caps face the Brookings Rangers on Saturday after the Rangers beat Sioux Falls East 4-2 Friday night. Coverage will start at 7:40 with puck drop at 8:00 on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
