The Sully Buttes Charger boys basketball team trailed 5-0 in the first two minutes of their matchup in Ipswich against the Tigers, but then they found their rhythm and rolled to a 75-33 victory Tuesday night.
Ipswich used a box and one defense against Charger guard Wesley Wittler, but had no answers for the other four positions on the court. Forward Eli Mercer led the way in scoring, with 28 points, including six threes on the night. Wittler, despite getting the extra attention, still finished with 20 with five others scoring in single digits.
The Chargers led 18-8 after one quarter, 37-18 at the half and 62-31 after three. The continuous clock was enacted in the second half and Sully Buttes and the Tigers emptied their bench.
The Chargers upped their record to 4-2 on the season while Ipswich dropped to 3-5. The Tigers were led in scoring by Max Kulesa with 11 points.
Next up for the Chargers is yet another road game for the boys and girls, as they play in Miller against the Rustlers Thursday night. The varsity girls will start at 6:15 with the boys game to follow. Those games will be broadcast on Country 95.3FM with DT Meyer on the call.
