South Dakota Tribe Lifts Ban Of Governor Kristi Noem

PIERRE, (KCCR) — The confirmation hearing for South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem for Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security was delayed from Wednesday to Friday evening due to a delay in F-B-I background check information. Noem’s pending transition away from direct state leadership is bringing a change in heart from some South Dakota Native American Tribes that have banned the Governor for comments Noem has made on various Tribal issues. The Flandreau Santee Sioux is the first to lift a ban on Noem’s presence on their eastern South Dakota reservation. The Tribe voted Tuesday to lift the banishment. Tribal President Anthony Reider says in a letter to Noem that he appreciates how the Governor sought advice on how to phrase communication with the Tribe moving forward after some comments were found to be offensive by some Tribal members. Reider further states he supports Noem’s nomination and wishes the Governor the best of luck in the hearing Friday in Washington.
